CONGRATULATIONS TO GEORGIA'S OUTSTANDING CROSSING GUARDS!

East Central Region: Carmenita Shine from Springdale Elementary in Bibb County

South Georgia Region: Angela Copeland from Hannan Elementary in Muscogee County

North Georgia Region: Craig Stephenson from White County Middle in White County

Metro Atlanta Region: Penney Haney at Huntley Hills Elementary School in DeKalb County

Is your Crossing Guard Outstanding? New this year, we asked schools and communities to nominate their Outstanding Crossing Guard.  The deadline to submit nominations was November 10th. The Resource Center received 32 nominations!  And we had a hard time narrowing them down! Our School Outreach Coordinators will be in touch with the nominators of these four guards to present a new stop paddle!

Schools and communities are encouraged to use this week-long celebration to recognize the role that Crossing Guards play in helping keep our students safe as they walk and bicycle to school!

Consider one or more of the following event ideas and resources to help with your Crossing Guard Appreciation Week efforts

Have your students, parents, and other adults sign Thank You cards for your crossing guard(s)

Feature your crossing guard(s) in your school’s newsletter or on the website

Organize a Meet and Greet event for your families to get to know your crossing guard(s)

Invite your crossing guard to speak with classes about pedestrian safety

Work with your school’s PTO or PTA to provide breakfast for the crossing guard(s)

Create a banner and hang it up at each crossing guard’s post before s/he arrives for work as a surprise!

Contact your School Outreach Coordinator for assistance with planning a Georgia Crossing Guard Appreciation Week event or to access the Crossing Guard Week materials.
