International Walk to School Day

Since the year 2000, schools across the world have organized events to celebrate walking to school as part of International Walk to School Day. International Walk to School Day galvanizes visibility for walking and bicycling to school. Over time, this event has been part of a movement for year-round safe routes to school and a celebration – with record breaking participation - each October. Today, thousands of schools across America and in more than 40 countries worldwide celebrate walking to school every October.

At the Georgia Resource Center we encourage all Georgian schools to participate as best they can! Even if it's not possible to organize a walk to school, there are other ways to participate.  Visit the Walk to School Day Website to learn about the ways your school and community can participate.

Be sure to complete a survey after your event.  Click here to tell us how it went and to upload photos.

International Walk to School Day 2016

International Walk to School Day 2016 is scheduled for Wednesday October 5. If that date doesn't work for you and your community, that's ok! Remember that all of October is Walk to School Month, so any event held during that time is within the spirit of the event.  Registration will open in mid-August, but start planning your event now.

Use the Georgia SRTS Resource Center Materials

Last year, we created a new look for International Walk to School Day to inspire more schools to participate and register their events.  There are also two flyers just for middle schools – one for an event on October 5 and one for an event on another day in October.

Use the flyers, posters and thank you certificates here, or create your own, using the new logo.  All the flyers and posters are ‘fillable’ PDFs so you can include the details for the event at your school.

IWalk Logo Options

Small version.  If space is tight, the ‘thumbnail’ logo option may be your best bet.  Designed for spaces of about 1” x 1”, this iWalk logo has a strong impact.  The small version comes in full color and grayscale, which can be used when printing in black and white.
