When did SRTS start?

The Federal SRTS program started in 2005 as part of the 5-year transportation bill called SAFETEA-LU (Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users). During the period 2005 to 2009, SAFETEA-LU provided $612 million to States. Georgia’s Department of Transportation received $16.9 million. Funding covers 100% of the cost of eligible projects, programs and planning. Click here for more information on the Federal Safe Routes to School Program.
